[Tobias moves back from the camera so that everyone can be seen in the shot. He's sitting in a park today, back in Goldenrod. Regal the Braviary is sitting next to him, but he's also got a Hawlucha, a Talonflame, some Spritzee, an Empoleon, and a Swablu with him. He clears his throat a little, indicating to the group to settle down.]

Right. So... I was thinking about something that I might be able to help other people with. It's... kind of weird, so hear me out on this one.

I have kind of an... understanding with birds. I can't read their minds or anything, but I know a lot about birds back home, and it's helped me out here. Especially with the bird-like Pokemon that are more like birds of prey... or really territorial, like Nacho here.

[The Hawlucha moves a little closer at the mention of his name, and Tobias scratches one of his wing joints gently.]

So I thought that if anyone is having problem with bird-like Pokemon, I could help out? I'm not going to claim I can fix every problem, but I might be able to help you figure out more of what's going on. At the very least, if you're really having problems it might be better than nothing, right?

Oh. Uh... and my name's Tobias, if we haven't met. Just let me know if you want me to help. ... Thanks.

[He reaches over for the Pokegear and turns it off.]

[Well this claim seems absurd by all accounts, but then again Nagi has seen plenty of absurd things having to do with Pokemon. He's heard of plenty of unusual characters claiming they could speak to Pokemon (not counting psychics), but he's never heard of someone claiming to be able to do so with birds.

Still...it brings to mind a problem of his own he's been having that he's been violently ignoring, and it hasn't been getting better. So. It's...incredibly stupid, enough so that it requires a private filter, apparently.]

Can you work off of a description alone, or do you need a visual of the Pokémon?

Well, like I said, it's more that I know bird behavior, so a description would probably be okay.

I have a Noctowl who has been acting lethargic and depressed for some time, now. I suspect I know the cause, but there is nothing I can actually do to fix it.

...there used to be a person here he was fond of for some inexplicable reason. They left a few months ago and he's still upset over it. He knows I didn't like this person at all, so I think he suspects I'm lying to him in saying he really isn't here anymore.

Do you have their ID? I can look it up and have my Pokemon watch me do it, and we can try to explain to him that no, they're not still here.

I never contacted him with my Gear, but it should be present from his past activity on the Network. I will send it to you once I have retrieved it.

[So in the pause that follows it can be assumed Nagi manages to do that (things like this aren't hard for him to find, even though he barely contacted Valmont personally, much less overly willingly) and gets the ID sent over to Tobias to try.]

[And give him a minute or so... okay. Yeah. Definitely not here anymore. He shows it to the flock to make sure they can see that he's not there, and explains it verbally.]

Okay. I think we've got it. Do you want to turn on video now? Or if you're in Goldenrod I can do it in person if that's better for you.

I'm not in Goldenrod. Give me a moment.

[When the video turns on, the sight Tobias is greeted by is rather...interesting, if nothing else. It's just outside of town where the treeline begins, and perched up in the branches of a tree is the previously mentioned Noctowl. He doesn't look happy about being out at the moment, sortof just staring down at the Gear with an unimpressed glare as his talons tightly grip the branch he's perched on.]

[He smiles a little bit, and pulls his shoulder back a little so it doesn't look like he's trying to puff up. He keeps his movements slow and deliberate, trying not to startle the Noctowl into aggression. Regal peers in over his shoulder, trying to appear similarly relaxed.]

Hey... I hear you're looking for a friend of yours. I checked him out for you... it looks like he's not here anymore. I'm sorry.

[He dips his head a bit, exposing the back of his neck where a bird of prey would probably grab on if it were big enough. He's not trying to compete for territory, and he's not trying to make any aggressive moves. Regal nudges Tobias a little, in a show of comfort.]

I know it's sad. I was sad when one of my friends left, too! And it's okay to be sad, and it's okay to not believe it for a little while. But all you can do is keep going. I hear sometimes trainers show up again, so maybe he will, too. And your friend wouldn't want you to be sad, right?

[The rest of the flock chirps their agreement, and Regal hunkers down a little so he can see the video better.]

[The look on the Noctowl's face can only be described as suspicious as he watches Tobias and his flock, kneading his perch but otherwise remaining as still as a statue. It's not something Nagi can tell as he holds up the Gear to record, but Tobias might be able to spot the telltale signs of disappointment slowly dawning on the bird when Regal speaks to him. The feathers at his shoulders lie flat and his eyes grow a bit hooded as he clacks his beak softly.]

I see. I know they did not like me very much. I was hoping that, with time, they would grow to appreciate my company, as did my trainer before them.

[His chest swells a bit as he lowers his head, fixing Tobias with his gaze.]

But now there is no time for such things, if they are no longer present here. ...is that what you are saying?

That's right. Maybe they'll come back some day, but they're not here now. ... But you can still make friends! I'll be your friend, if you want.

[Tobias glances between Regal and the Noctowl, trying to figure out exactly what they're saying. Regal is chirping in a friendly tone, so...]

It's okay to make other friends, you know. And friends like to see their friends being happy.

_{[Well, that catches her attention. She's a little meek because she hasn't seen Tobias since he helped her with her nightmare, but she can't not respond to this, and she doesn't mind talking to him anyway.]}

Actually ... I have an Unfezant, and she's angry a lot.

In general. She doesn't like listening to me and she keeps picking fights with Meeko.

She got better since she evolved but ...

Huh... what species is Meeko?

Jay - that's my Amaura - he can make her play nice sometimes. But sometimes she's unfriendly. I don't want to release her or anything if I don't have to though.

Unless maybe she'd be happier?

That's probably because Amaura are part ice type.

But maybe it's because she thinks Meeko is prey. I might be able to get her to calm down a little bit... I'm staying at the circus for now, if you want to meet me there?

_{[She'd been out, but she doesn't mind turning around - and when they've worked out a time and place, she gets there soon enough. It functions as home, for now, so she drops her backpack near her cot and then goes to find Tobias.]

[She does that with a small smile.]}

[Tobias is there with Regal and Nacho, the two flying-types seated on the ground. Nacho seems to be nibbling on a berry, and he looks up in alarm as someone enters.]

Hey. Calm down.

[The Hawlucha makes a displeased noise, but goes back to his berry. Tobias smiles at Molly.]

Hi. How are you doing?

I'm okay. Are you?

_{[She's playing a little with a pokéball in her hand, and her Natu Aria is perched on her shoulder, but has nobody else with her. Aria is obviously not the problem bird: she's affectionate and even a little shy when she looks at the other two birds present.]}

Yeah. I've been practicing a lot lately, which is why I've been staying here.

[He'd have already dealt with Cianwood's gym if he didn't need so much practice right now, but he can always do that after the show.]

Ah... and who's this?

[He looks over at Aria and digs in his bag, pulling out some dried berry and handing it to Molly. Molly's her trainer, after all.]

I live here now. I'm staying with Jimmy.

_{[There's something aaalmost touching on proud in the way she says that, mostly because she really likes Jimmy, so there's some of that little sister like kind of worship.]

[And there's even more of that touch of pride when she smiles and accepts the berry from Tobias and coaxes Aria into her hands.]}

Aria! She's my starter. Aren't you, Aria?

_{[And Aria carefully lets out a little trill before she pecks at that berry.]}

It's nice to meet you, Aria.

[Nacho squawks in annoyance.]

Oh, be nice. This is Nacho. He's one of the ones I've worked with a lot.
