So I'm just wondering... a couple of things, really. First of all, how many people are here who are under the age of twenty? It feels like that's a lot of people here - more than you'd usually see in any kind of population. Has anyone tracked that kind of stuff?

And second...

How many people had what people might call... powers or abilities or magic at home? Like, stuff that most people can't do but you can do? I'm not counting if you come from some kind of world where magic is common, but where it's rare and people would stare at you for doing it, that's what I mean.

Yeah, I understand that. But being an adult comes with a lot of responsibilities. Being this age is okay.

You know, a few months ago I'd have said you were loony tunes. Hell, a couple days ago I probably would've.

A few years ago I would have said the same thing.

I'm seventeen. [Not that he looks it, but the whole 'lost four years thanks to shenanigans' thing is hard to explain.] It does seem off-balance, but then maybe whatever's been pulling us here needs people in that age range? It doesn't seem like the people chosen to come here is completely random.

[He frowns a little thinking about the second part.] And...I guess yes and no to the powers thing. Alchemists aren't uncommon where I'm from, but I can do some things that very few other alchemists can. And even then Brother and I got some stares from people in out-of-the-way towns just for doing the normal stuff. So I dunno if I'd count on your list or not, eheh.

[It's okay, he understands shenanigans all too well.]

Maybe. I don't know.

... Alchemy? Like... lead into gold, or whatever?

[Al actually laughs a little.] We can do that, but it's against my country's laws for economic reasons. Alchemy can be used for lots of stuff, though. I could repair a vase that had been broken to look brand new, or turn a gun into a bunch of metal marbles. There medicinal uses, too, pulling the chemicals out of herbs that would otherwise be dangerous to use in treatment.

Ahh, I was about nineteen when I first got here, if that counts. It's kind of been a few years though.

I dunno. Unless the older people just aren't using the network as much.

No offense, but wouldn't it be better to find out what kind of powers they had instead of figuring out how many people used to have 'em?

I think so. But for the record? I've found that most people here don't seem to really care if you had weird powers at home. Or even if you weren't human.
