So I'm just wondering... a couple of things, really. First of all, how many people are here who are under the age of twenty? It feels like that's a lot of people here - more than you'd usually see in any kind of population. Has anyone tracked that kind of stuff?

And second...

How many people had what people might call... powers or abilities or magic at home? Like, stuff that most people can't do but you can do? I'm not counting if you come from some kind of world where magic is common, but where it's rare and people would stare at you for doing it, that's what I mean.

We're usually boarded in dorms or get apartments of our own. I've been living on my own since I was--well, never mind that.

Sorta? I can see them while they're inside of a living person, too, not just wandering souls. Hauntings aren't that common, something...usually happens to the soul before they get a chance to.

There's boarding schools, but I've never been to one. Just public schools. It's - it's fine.

People here usually call it creepy or ask if that means I can read their minds.

I mean, it should be obvious that I can't, right? Your mind isn't the same as your soul. Besides, some people are so gross I don't want to go anywhere near their thoughts.

Nah, I don't think it's creepy. I've run into aliens that can read minds, and they were kind of creepy, but they were kind of creepy even without that. When I'm in morph I can speak mind to mind, but it's not reading thoughts... though I thought it was at first.

I don't know anything about souls, though. Not outside of like... fantasy books or something. But I totally get the not wanting to touch the minds of certain people.

What kinds of things? Animals? What's it like?

Animals, usually. Anything with DNA that I can touch that's alive. Not plants, as far as I can tell. And it's... weird. The instincts of the thing you turn into can be overwhelming. It's worse the simpler you get. Bugs are... terrible. But most things are pretty cool once you get the hang of it.
