[Tobias isn't usually the most excited and bouncy of people, but today he looks absolutely overjoyed. Why? Well... the reason is standing next to him, in the form of a bird as big as him. He has an arm around the bird's neck, grinning from ear to ear.]

Regal evolved! It took him a while, but he finally did it!

[He gives the bird a squeeze, and nuzzles his feathers. When he looks at the camera again, his cheeks are a little wet. ... He's not crying. Shush.]

Now all we need to do is to get him a Fly HM, and we can take to the skies. I'm really really proud of him. He worked really hard to do this.

[... He's gonna start crying again, so he just smiles a little shakily and turns off the recording.]

Yeah. I'm just glad that he seems happy. He seems a lot more confident, too. Maybe he was just scared because he was so small?

Perhaps, I did tell you that they were slow growers. If it's enough to make people feel bad about themselves, I'm sure Pokemon can relate to that too.

...Well, that and it's not good to be small in the wild, you're generally more likely to be eaten then. I'm sure he's happy to be off the "prey" list.

Yeah, that's true. He doesn't exactly strike me as a mighty predator, though. He's too goofy for that.

[Aaaand he's nudged in the back by Regal.]

[It's weird to hear a bird laugh, but that weird chirping noise from Regal sure sounds like laughter.]

Hee-hee, that's fine, he seems like he's very fond of you either way!

[And generally it's good to have a giant deathbird on your side.]

I think all of our Pokemon are a little spoiled in their own right, they might have forgotten how to hunt for themselves except...plucking the dangerous and vicious berries from bushes, oooh.

Yeah. It's a little strange to see them become domesticated so fast.

Weeeellll...I wouldn't say it's "so fast" necessarily. When I was given access to some history pieces of this world, I noticed that Pokemon were around long enough to end up in ancient stone art. I imagine that, though most of them are in the wild, their taming and domestication is similar to wolves and wild cats as the companions that we know and love today.

Besides, not all of them end up tame, I have a Gengar that still thinks he can play tricks on me. [And the lights flicker on and off at her end as if to demonstrate that.] He's a silly thing.

True, but a lot of that takes time. And there's a certain level of... not that wolves and wild cats and modern dogs and cats aren't smart, but it's almost a different level of sentience. It's hard to describe. I guess... if they've been around that long maybe a lot of the wild Pokemon are still sort of companion species.

You're right about that part, though there's evidence that cats and dogs do process emotion on somewhat the same level as humans, there's still a discrepancy there. Pokemon feel and express their thoughts so eloquently I don't doubt sometimes that the rumor of Ghosts formerly being human is true.

[Well, actually, she doesn't doubt it at all, because she's heard the ghosts speaking and some of them were humans previously. Others either don't remember or don't wish to tell. However, that has no place in the conversation, she doesn't want to depress the boy.]

Well... yeah. I mean almost all animals have emotions. It's kind of a tricky subject to get into, you just end up hurting your head. ... I don't know about ghosts here though, I only have a few ghost types in my group I think.

That's right, although I believe lately I've been under the pseudonym "Psychic" for our conversations, if my intuition is correct.

[And it used to be scarily spot on considering she had some psychic ability before.]

Don't worry about it, it reminded me of my friends actually. If Yusuke were more clever, he probably would come up with something like that.
