[There's a... very uncertain-looking young man peering into the camera. He's really not sure what to make of any of this. It's a little hard to believe that he's like this, and he can't morph, and that there are Pokemon.]
[... He's trying to keep it together.]
So... uh.
[Great start, Tobias.]
I guess... I'm stuck here? No one in town really had anything useful to say. None of this makes much sense. And I'm guessing asking how to get home isn't going to get me any real answers, either.
[There's a squawk off-camera, and he looks concerned for a minute.]
I'm guessing the first step is to head to the next town, right? And start building up a team...
[... Why did he make this broadcast anyway?]
... If anyone's got any advice for that kind of thing, feel free to give it.
[He clicks the broadcast off.]
[Action]
[He's not in New Bark Town anymore. He's nearby, but he's sitting in a small area free of tall grass, staring down his Pokemon. What's a Rufflet, anyway? ... At least the body language is familiar. He holds out his hand, waiting for the little Pokemon to approach.]
[... This might take a while.]

And yeah, I have. I got here January of last year, so if you have any training questions you can ask me! I know Norman didn't really get much into training in the manual. It sucks being new, it takes a really long time for your pokemon to even be high enough levels to do the gyms and stuff.

Ruff!
[sdlkfsdf that sure is a Rufflet peering into the video close up.]

Hi there! You must be his partner!
He's... friendly.

Jack, get down-
Maybe he's just curious about what you're doing. Does he have a name yet?

Like Jack-
Vee!
-got his name 'cause Eevee can turn into a whole bunch of things. I think like seven? Seven different evolutions. And they're a normal-type so they can learn all kinds of TMs, too. So he's a jack of all trades. But my starter Susie, I just kind of bounced names off of her and that one stuck.
It gets easier the more you do it.

[The bird nuzzles Tobias' cheek. Friend!]
What kinds of Pokemon do you think I should go after first? Like, what's the most useful in the starting areas?
no subject
Ummm... hmm. Well, the first areas are mostly like normal and normal-flying types, from what I remember, but everything's low-level enough that you don't have to worry about type for the wild pokemon. Oh! It's also faster if you get a pokemon big enough you can ride on it. Like Arcanine or Rapidash or something. Once you get the Zephyr Badge, you'll be able to fly if you get a pokemon that knows it, but it's like ten days from New Bark to Violet if you're not riding something.
I know that the breeding center gives out a free egg to new people! If you're not going to Kanto, see if you can get an Electric-type or an Ice-type, because they'll be strong against the first gym. I think I heard you can sometimes find Shinx on one of the early routes, but I never saw one. But if you see one, catch it, because Luxray are really cool-looking.

It's pretty funny watching something the size of, like, a Golett come out of this egg that's small enough to carry around in your arms, though.

Y... yeah. I didn't really play much, they just came out.

Well, there's a whole lot of new pokemon, and two whole new types from the games. So it's probably good that you didn't spend a whole lot of time playing them, 'cause you don't have to relearn all the type stuff.

Some of the old people are okay, though.

...I dunno how old Miss Carmen is, but you should meet her. She's really cool and really smart.

[... Smart people can be both good or bad, really.]
no subject
Well, she doesn't work in a school, but she likes teaching people.
[Teachers are one of the few groups of authority figures Shaun still somewhat trusts.]
